The Honest Negotiation
Never flinch. Never backpedal.
Never lose control.
You built trust. You asked the right questions. You uncovered what matters. The homeowner told you what they want, why they want it, and what they won't compromise on.
Then it happens.
I was friendly. I knew my product. I built rapport, asked a few questions, walked the yard, took measurements, and presented my recommendation. Sometimes I'd win. A lot of the time I wouldn't.
And here's where it always went wrong. The homeowner would push back. “We need to think about it.” “Can you do anything on the price?” “We're talking to another company.” And I'd panic, just a little, on the inside. I'd start explaining more. Defending the price. Offering a discount I hadn't planned on giving. Or I'd back off completely and hope they'd call me back.
Like most in-home sales reps, I assumed I needed to get better at handling objections. Better comebacks. Better ways to hold my ground. Better ways to close.
Years later, I realized I'd been trying to solve the wrong problem. I wasn't losing deals because I couldn't close. I was losing them the moment pushback hit, because I didn't have an honest way to handle it. So I reached for whatever felt safest in the moment — defending, discounting, or disappearing — instead of staying steady.
One thing had always bothered me about sales. I never wanted to manipulate people. I never wanted clever objection-handling lines or pressure tactics. I wanted homeowners to make a decision that felt like their own, even when that decision was no.
I just didn't have a process that showed me how. So I went to work rebuilding the hardest part of the appointment from the ground up. Not the opening — the moment right after it, when the homeowner pushes back and everything is on the line.
I became obsessed with one idea: what if I could handle pushback without flinching? What if I could reconnect a homeowner to what they'd already told me mattered, instead of starting to sell all over again? What if a discount request didn't have to mean caving, and “we need to think about it” didn't have to mean losing the deal?
That journey eventually became what we now call The Honest Negotiation. It's not a collection of clever comebacks. It's a repeatable way to stay honest and steady when the pressure is highest, so the homeowner can make a real decision, and so can you.
It's the system I wish someone had handed me when I was that twenty-five-year-old selling pools, back when “we need to think about it” sometimes meant the difference between making payroll that week or not.

Absorb resistance without getting defensive, rushing to answer it, or immediately trying to fix the problem.
Find out what “you’re too expensive,” “we need to think about it,” or “can you do anything on price?” actually means before you start trying to solve it.
Stay curious long enough to discover the real concern behind the first thing the homeowner says.
Bring the conversation back to the vision, priorities, non-negotiables, and emotional reasons the homeowner already shared earlier in the appointment.
Remind people of what they told you matters without making it feel like you’re cornering them with their own answers.
Know where your professional confidence belongs, without becoming pushy about the homeowner’s choice.
Guide the homeowner without needing to force the outcome you want.
Stop making price concessions just because the conversation gets uncomfortable.
Know what to do next instead of saying “no problem, I’ll follow up next week” and hoping the deal comes back.
See why reps default to defending, dictating, or deferring when pressure hits, and what to do instead.
Help the homeowner see the real tradeoff between the solution they said they want and the compromises required to spend less.
Guide the conversation toward a clear yes, a clear no, or a clearly named reason why it’s neither.
Work through the situations you’re actually hearing in the field, not made-up sales examples that never happen in a homeowner’s kitchen.
No more improvising. No more wondering what you should have said on the drive home. You’ll know what to do next.

Rewatch it, use it for practice, use it in team coaching — come back whenever you need a refresher.
I took a similar program with Question First Group last year and it was game changing not only for my professional career, but also with family and friendships too. Keep up the great work guys!
The Foundational Five was huge for me. Discovery questions, listening and allowing the client to fill the gaps.
I can attest that my sales guy doing this coaching, his close rate jumped from below 30% to 45%.
Love the simplicity of both the masterclass, the training and the documents you’ve shared.
Honestly? Yes, we’ll tell you about our coaching programs, and by the end you’ll know exactly what your next step would look like if you want to keep working with us. We’re not going to pretend otherwise.
But that’s not what these 90 minutes are for. This is a live, interactive masterclass — role-play, coaching, live demonstrations, real participation, not just us talking at you. What you learn in the morning, you’ll be able to use in your appointments that afternoon. And if you like what we do and want to go further, we’ll make that clear and easy. If you don’t, you’ll still walk away with a system you can use regardless.
Absolutely. Most experienced reps are already great at discovery — this isn’t about that. It’s about the sixty seconds right after discovery, when the homeowner pushes back, which is where even strong reps lose deals they’d already earned.
Here’s the other thing: less than 5% of sales reps have ever actually done real role-play, the kind where you practice the exact pushback you hear in the field, out loud, with feedback. That’s the differentiator in how we coach — real situations, real role-play, not theory. So even coming in as an experienced rep, you’re going to get the chance to practice something you’ve probably never practiced properly before. We know you’re good at what you do. This is your chance to get better at the part that’s hardest to improve on your own.
Absolutely — we encourage it. One of the fastest ways to improve consistency across a team is giving everyone the same system for handling pushback, the same language, and the same standard to coach against. If you’re a sales leader, register your team below and let everyone go through The Honest Negotiation together.
We’d strongly encourage attending live — the role-play, the coaching, and the Q&A are where the biggest breakthroughs happen, and it’s also the only way to qualify for the personal coach review bonus. But if you genuinely can’t make it, register anyway. You’ll still get the full recording delivered to your inbox, along with every other bonus.
